Week 8: Discussion Question – Research and Evidence-Based Practice Discussion Topic » Dissertation Consulting Company.

ANSWER:

Discussion: Research and Evidence-Based Practice

Evidence-based practice involves using scientific-backed practice methods to approach a nursing problem and make clinical decisions. There is usually no systematic way the procedures when carried out, only that they follow propositions based on prescribed evidence. They achieve the same results when replicated in different facilities because they have science to back the processes (CHIEN, 2019). Evidence-based practice methods strive to bring changes in practice. In contrast, nursing research involves being creative to generate new knowledge to build more evidence-based practice methods. The research uses a systemic process to investigate problems and find new truths. Research results in evidence and desires to understand the world (CHIEN, 2019). There is no limit to exploring research because it can add to existing knowledge or explore new avenues. Research and Evidence-Based Practice

One identifies an evidence-based intervention by first identifying the practices and programs that have been found effective through rigorous testing (Maryann Godshall, 2019). A literature review targeting the desired topic would reveal if there are evidence-based practice interventions already documented, approved, and published by credible sources or not. Several resources like the Healthy People 2020 Evidence-Based Resource Tool provides updated information regarding evidence-based practices. Research and Evidence-Based Practice

In contrast, a research project to create knowledge would address a knowledge gap. A need for significant research usually characterizes these gaps, but researchers have not explored them, or there is little literature on those topics (Maryann Godshall, 2019). I would begin by reading published literature on my desired topics because they provide me with an understanding of the depth of the works and an opportunity to identify the gaps. The recommendations for future research sections and the introduction in others provide unexplored areas. I would also seek help from other research advisors in my field to generate ideas for study. Also, digital platforms offer a wealth of information about the trending areas in many subjects and will enable me to search for many unexplored areas. Research and Evidence-Based Practice

QUESTION:

Using supporting documentation from at least one nursing publication, describe how evidence-based practice is different from research. How would you identify a research project as being an evidence-based intervention project versus the creation of knowledge in a nursing research project?
