ANSWER
The Social Determinants of health (SDH) and the World Health Organization’s Commission on Social Determinants of Health report are the theoretical foundation for my capstone project, “Hypertension in the Homeless Population: A Public Health Perspective.” In order to resolve inequities in health outcomes, it is crucial to address underlying structural problems highlighted by this approach.
The SDH approach focuses on how social and economic circumstances affect a person’s ability to access resources critical to physical well-being, such as housing, healthcare, food security, education, etc. The SDH model enables us to consider the intricate interactions between proximal and distal factors affecting the health of vulnerable populations. Additionally, this approach gives prospective solutions for resolving the problem and assists in determining which health determinants are responsible for the hypertension inequalities encountered by people who are homeless.
Targeting specific SDH interventions might help lower the risks of both short-term morbidity from hypertension and long-term mortality, such as access to primary care services, stable housing, better nutrition, and economic security. My project aims to thoroughly examine how socioeconomic variables affect hypertension in vulnerable populations like the homeless population using an SDH approach. By doing this, our study hopes to improve understanding of current health inequities and influence public policy measures that deal with these issues structurally.
To sum up, my capstone thesis addresses the difficulties of contemporary data analytics by utilizing cutting-edge technologies and creative strategies. I have created a robust system that can extract valuable insights and comprehension from massive datasets using machine learning algorithms, natural language processing methods, and sophisticated statistical analysis approaches. I have learned a lot about using cutting-edge technologies for data manipulation and analysis as a result of this project, which will help me in my future profession in data science.
