Retention and Recruitment
Q1. How would you retain the nurses you have?
The retirement in high numbers is likely to cause nurse shortage in the current and future healthcare system. The situation calls for a strategy that focuses on nurse retention in healthcare facilities. Firstly, nurse managers should ensure a civil work environment that ensures that employee rights and needs are met, promoting loyalty among the nurses (Owens et al., 2021). Additionally, nurse managers can work towards worker appreciation strategies by promoting the nursing staff on merit and allowing them to advance in their studies and improve on their skills and advance in their profession. According to Owens et al. (2021), the nurse managers may also advocate for training opportunities. For example, a blended educational approach that allows external trainers to visit the facility and educate the practicing nurses on a work culture that promotes their professional growth, expanding their career paths. The approach will make the nurses feel appreciated, thus their loyalty and retention, countering nurse shortages in the health facility. Nursing and The Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers Essay
Q2. How would you recruit additional nurses?
Recruiting additional nurses in the health facility will ensure adequate numbers of the working nursing staff. To increase the number of staff at the workplace, Hoover et al. (2020) suggest that as a lead nurse, I must work collaboratively with the facility’s management team and advocate for networks and alliances that offer opportunities that attract more nurses to work in our facility. Similarly having a diversified approach in recruiting nurses, for instance, advertising in nursing schools besides using having internet-based advertisements in our organization’s website and social media platforms. The facility may also have virtual interviews for a wider audience of interested candidates, ensuring that the organization attracts many nurses with different skills, promoting a working culture that embraces sharing and improving professional skills in the nursing staff. Q3. What do you think the future of the nursing workforce will look like in 50 years?
From my observation, there have been changes in the nursing profession that focus on promoting proficiency in caring services. Thus, Albahri et al. (2021) state that there have been attempts aiming at ensuring the use of advanced technologies in prevention and curing processes, promoting safety and patient satisfaction. Therefore, I believe that in 50 years, the nursing field will incorporate a multifaceted approach that embraces sophistication in promoting preventive care and curing services, lowering disease spread, thus improved life quality in communities.
