Guidelines to writing your research

There are no minimum pages required to complete your research and there are differences
between subjects at many universities. For examples, Philosophy students are limited to 80,000
words and mathematics might limit to 10,000 words. Albert Einstein’s PhD was 26 pages or less
than 7,000 words by today’s estimates.
This guideline is to advise and suggest what should be your guide. Most students struggle to
review the literature in under 35 pages; there are always exceptions. You should use it as an
indicator and not a rule.
PhD by research, 60 credit degrees:
35,000 – 40,000 words
DSc and PhD in Business Analytics, or PhD by research if more than 30 credits transferred
25,000 to 30,000 words
M.Res
10,000 – 15,000 words
By publication with the Exegesis
5,000 – 7,000 words

Your work is to show a problem that did not have an answer and you have added an original
contribution to knowledge. That needs detail and this guide is to help.
